How this university scores applications, with the figures it publishes.
High level summary
Simple summary. Excruciating detail below.
| Question | Answer |
|---|
| Is there a score to clear? | Yes. The university publishes a number, further down this page. Miss it and you are not shortlisted. It is reset every year, so last year’s figure is a guide, not a promise. |
| How to read the UCAT figures here | Neither a lowest score nor an average is published, so there is nothing here to measure against. |
| What else counts | Degree subject and class are a requirement in their own right. Details below.
GCSEs are a gate. Meeting the minimum is what counts; beating it earns nothing.
No SJT rule is published. |
| The odds | Of every 100 who applied, about 34 were interviewed and about 15 were offered a place.
(2026 UCAS cycle.) |
| Where it is decided | Before interview. Most applicants never get one, so the score does most of the work here.
Of those interviewed, about 46 in 100 were offered a place. |

Summary of the selection model
| Item | Detail |
|---|
| Scoring approach | One of very few schools publishing exact thresholds for BOTH tests and both applicant groups. For 2026 entry: UCAT 1960 standard and 1910 contextual of 2700, GAMSAT 59 and 53. Lower thresholds apply to care leavers, deprived postcodes, free school meals and POLAR4 quintiles 1 and 2, and the school says they are set to hold the widening participation share steady between application and interview. Where both tests are sat the higher score is used |
| Admissions test - how it is used | Either test accepted. Applicants are ranked on their score and considered for interview. UCAT must be sat in the same year as the UCAS submission |
| GAMSAT requirement | 2026 entry: 59 standard, 53 contextual. 2025 entry: 57 standard, 50 contextual. Must be taken within two years before the UCAS submission |
| UCAT threshold | 2026 entry: 1960 standard, 1910 contextual, of 2700. 2025 entry: 2490 and 2450, of 3600. Always quote the scale with these |
| Interview format | MMI |
| Data status | Thresholds and cycle outcomes complete. Lowest and average UCAT, SJT treatment and the selection step after the threshold are not published |

WHY THE GAMSAT THRESHOLD ROSE WHILE THE UCAT ONE APPEARS TO FALL. The UCAT figures only look lower because the scale changed; 1960 of 2700 is not a softening of 2490 of 3600. The GAMSAT scale did not change, and there the standard threshold genuinely rose from 57 to 59 and the contextual one from 50 to 53. The contextual concession narrowed too, from 7 GAMSAT points to 6 and, on the UCAT, to 50 points. This course is getting harder, not easier.

| Item | Detail |
|---|
| Where both tests are sat | The higher of the UCAT and the GAMSAT score is used when selecting for interview |
| Interview scoring | Answers are marked on a 0 to 100 scale, 80 per cent for the content of the answer and 20 per cent for communication |
| Fee status | Home applicants only. The school states it can accept applications only from students who are home students for fee purposes |
| Why the contextual thresholds sit where they do | The school states the lower thresholds are set so that the proportion of widening participation applicants at interview stays the same as it was at application |
| UCAT lowest and average accepted | Unknown at either stage, for either applicant group |
| Situational Judgement Test | Neither the school nor Imperial says anywhere what is done with the SJT band |
| Whether everyone above the threshold is interviewed | Not stated. In the 2026 cycle 832 applied and 279 were interviewed, so something narrows the field beyond the threshold, but what it is has not been published |
