How this university scores applications, with the figures it publishes.

High level summary

Simple summary. Excruciating detail below.

QuestionAnswer
Is there a score to clear? No. The university says it does not set one.
How to read the UCAT figures hereNeither a lowest score nor an average is published, so there is nothing here to measure against.
What else countsDegree subject and class are a requirement in their own right. Details below. GCSEs are a gate. Meeting the minimum is what counts; beating it earns nothing. The personal statement is not used to shortlist. No SJT rule is published.

Summary of the selection model

ItemDetail
Scoring approachTwo-stage testing - UCAT or GAMSAT ranks for interview, then CASPer is sat as part of the MMI itself. Preference given to widening participation applicants (geographic links, first in family, POLAR Q1-2, NHS experience, refugee status). Personal statement not scored
Admissions test - how it is usedUCAT or GAMSAT used to rank applicants before interview. CASPer is then included within the MMI for shortlisted candidates
GAMSAT requirementAccepted alongside UCAT
UCAT thresholdNo threshold. Worcester says only that "most shortlisted applicants scored more than 50 on GAMSAT (maximum 73) or 1870 on UCAT (maximum 3020)". Treat the 1870 loosely - see the note below.
Interview formatCombination of traditional in-person panel and MMI
Data statusFigures published but internally inconsistent. Do not quote the UCAT number to a student as a target

The published figures, and the problem with them

TestFigure quotedMaximum quotedReal maximumUsable?
GAMSATmore than 507373Yes. 73 is correct, so 50 is a meaningful marker
UCAT187030203600, or 2700 from the 2025 cycleNo. See below

WHY THE UCAT FIGURE CANNOT BE USED. The UCAT total has never had a maximum of 3020. It was 3600 across four subtests up to and including the 2024 cycle, and has been 2700 across three since 2025. A stated maximum that matches neither scale means the figure beside it cannot be placed on either, and 1870 lands in completely different places depending on which is meant: it is around the 5th decile on the current 2700 scale, and below anything measurable on the old 3600 one. Until Worcester corrects the page or answers the FOI request, record the GAMSAT marker and treat the UCAT one as indicative only. This is the single clearest case in the workbook for asking a school to confirm its own published numbers.
