Undergraduate medicine: summary
HOW TO USE THIS PAGE. This page has nine columns and nothing else, so it fits on a screen. 1. Find your grades in the GCSE, A level and Highers or IB columns. They are the headline requirement only; the full wording is on each university's own tab. 2. Find your UCAT score in the UCAT column. Every figure is on the CURRENT scale out of 2700. A figure marked ~ has been converted from the old 3600 scale: it is a guide to where a score stood among that year's candidates, not an official number, and for cycles before 2023 the old table itself is modelled rather than published. 3. Each UCAT cell says underneath it what the figure actually is. Some schools publish the lowest score they INTERVIEWED, others the lowest they made an OFFER to, and a few publish a MEAN. Those are not the same thing and must not be compared with each other. 4. If you have a contextual or widening participation flag, read the contextual column first. The bar is often far lower and at some schools there is no bar at all. 5. The SJT column matters more than most people expect. A few schools reject bands 3 and 4, not just band 4. 6. Then open that university's own tab for the detail, which now carries everything this page carries and more. 7. To work the other way round, from a score to a list of schools, use the 'UCAT score - who is in reach' tab. A cell reading Unknown means the university does not publish the figure, not that there is no requirement.

READ THIS BEFORE COMPARING ANY TWO SCHOOLS. Universities publish different things. A school showing 'From 2320' is telling you the lowest score it INVITED to interview. A school showing a range like '1560 to 2560' is telling you about the people it made OFFERS to, which is a much later stage. The 'Figure is for' column says which. Applications per place is given only where the university publishes both numbers, and uses whichever applicant group that university reported, so it is a rough guide to competition rather than an exact rate. Places are the most recent published figure.
The lowest bars in this table, for anyone who thinks their score rules them out
Split into two lists, because most of the very low figures are only reachable with a contextual or widening participation flag and it matters which list you are reading. Every figure is on the current 2700 scale. The 1st national decile of the 2025 test cycle was 1580, so everything below is at or under that.
A. No contextual flag needed. Standard route.
| University | Route | Figure | What it is | Unknown | Unknown | HPAT, not UCAT |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Anglia Ruskin | A100, no contextual flag | 1560 | Lowest score OFFERED a place, 2026 entry, non-contextual. Their median non-contextual offer holder sat at 2040, so this is the floor of the range and not the middle of it | Unknown | Unknown | No exclusion published |
| Cardiff | A100, all groups combined | 1570 | Lowest score OFFERED a place, 2026 entry. Cardiff does not split contextual from standard, so this applicant may have held a flag | Unknown | Unknown | Not used |
| Aston | A100, non-contextual home | 1580 | Lowest score INTERVIEWED, 2026 entry. Aston has no threshold at all and accepts every SJT band | Unknown | Unknown | All four bands accepted |
B. Contextual or widening participation flag required.
| University | Route | Figure | What it is | Unknown | Unknown | HPAT, not UCAT |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Plymouth | A102 Medicine with Foundation Year | 1400 | Published widening access threshold, 2026 entry. The whole course is a WP route | Unknown | Unknown | All sections considered, no exclusion published |
| Brighton and Sussex | A100 contextual | 1460 | Lowest score OFFERED a place, 2026 entry. BSMS invited every contextual applicant to interview | Unknown | Unknown | No band excluded |
| Anglia Ruskin | A100 contextual | 1490 | Lowest score OFFERED a place, 2026 entry | Unknown | Unknown | No exclusion published |
| Aston | A100 contextual | 1560 | Lowest score INTERVIEWED, 2026 entry. Contextual applicants are ranked in a separate pool and Aston has no threshold at all | Unknown | Unknown | All four bands accepted |
| Leeds | I900 Gateway Year to Medicine | 1610 | Lowest score SHORTLISTED for interview, 2026 entry. Leeds publishes a widening participation figure only for this route, so there is no standard equivalent | Unknown | Unknown | Unknown |
| Leicester | A100 contextual | Top 7 deciles | Automatic interview for Realising Opportunities and UKWPMED completers who meet the academic requirements. Leicester also runs A199, a separate six-year widening access course with 38 places, 15 of them held for East Midlands applicants | Unknown | Unknown | Bands 1 to 3 only |
These are floors, not targets. One person got in at each of these scores and most offer holders sat far higher. But they are real, they are published by the universities themselves, and they mean a low UCAT is not by itself a reason to give up on medicine. Pick one or two of these alongside your other choices rather than instead of them. And if you hold a contextual flag, list B is the one that applies to you as well as list A, not instead of it.
