How this university scores applications, with the figures it publishes.

High level summary

Simple summary. Excruciating detail below.

QuestionAnswer
Is there a score to clear?Yes, but it is set after applications close, so nobody knows it in advance. Past years are below.
How to read the UCAT figures hereA lowest score and an average are both published. Judge yourself against the average. The lowest is one person.
What else countsGCSEs are a gate. Meeting the minimum is what counts; beating it earns nothing. The SJT band does not affect shortlisting.
NoteFor applicants from outside Scotland the limit is the number of places, not the score. Scottish and non-Scottish applicants are interviewed at a similar rate, but far fewer places are open to the rest of the UK, so the offer rate afterwards is much lower. The interview is a traditional panel, not an MMI.

UCAT - how it is usedRequired of all applicants including graduates
UCAT thresholdA fixed threshold per fee group each cycle, set by that cohort's performance and not released during the cycle. Glasgow publishes the thresholds afterwards. 2025 entry (of 3600): about 1860 on the current scale for Scottish and EU applicants
UCAT lowest acceptedPublished by fee group and cycle in Glasgow's admissions PDF. See the threshold history below
UCAT average accepted2025 entry mean at interview, of 3600: all 2705, home 2709, rest of UK 2734, international 2708. Mean at offer: all 2914, home 2828, rest of UK 2833, international 3082. Home widening participation applicants: 2593 at interview and 2612 at offer, about 1920 and 1930 on the current scale
Interview formatOnline traditional panel interview
Contextual offerVerified widening participation applicants receive a graded adjustment to the UCAT score. Glasgow has still not given the size of that adjustment. No places are set aside for the route. Access Glasgow programmes, and completion of approved pre-entry programmes, can lead to adjusted offers
ResitsNot accepted
Data statusComplete for 2025 entry. Twelve years of thresholds, means at interview and offer, volumes by domicile, and widening participation volumes and means. The size of the contextual UCAT adjustment has still not been given. Glasgow has issued a notice that it does not hold decile or quartile distributions, does not use SJT bands, and did not hold 2026 entry data when the request was made
UCAT threshold (further detail)A fixed threshold per fee group each cycle, set by the performance of that cohort. Thresholds are in the admissions PDF published at gla.ac.uk/schools/medicine/mus/admissions. Confirmed under FOI 946019.
Scoring approach (further detail)Nothing is scored or weighted. The School confirmed under FOI 946019 that it does not score or weight any element of the application. Applicants are shortlisted purely on UCAT, per fee group, once the personal statement, reference and academic requirements are met. There is no scoring matrix and no GCSE points scheme, and the University issued a section 17 notice saying so.
SJTNot used to allocate interviews. Confirmed under FOI 946019 and on the published entry requirements.
Mean UCAT at interview, 2025 entryOf 3600, 2024 test cycle. All applicants 2705, home 2709, RUK 2734, international 2708. All four sit at about the 8th decile, roughly 2000 on the current 2700 scale. FOI 946019. Approximate current-scale equivalents, out of 2700: 2705 is about 2000, 2709 is about 2000, 2734 is about 2020, 2708 is about 2000.
Mean UCAT at offer, 2025 entryOf 3600, 2024 test cycle. All 2914, home 2828, RUK 2833, international 3082. Home and RUK at about the 9th decile, roughly 2100 on the current scale; the overall mean of 2914 is about 2170; the international mean is above the 9th decile. FOI 946019.
Distribution heldNone. The School does not hold any decile or quartile distribution of UCAT scores, and issued a section 17 notice to that effect rather than refusing under an exemption. Only means are held.
Contextual admissionsVerified widening participation applicants receive a graded adjustment to the UCAT score. Glasgow has still not given the size of that adjustment. No places are set aside for the route. Access Glasgow programmes, and completion of approved pre-entry programmes, can lead to adjusted offers
PlacesIntake target set by the Scottish Government, 346 in both years. 2026 entry: 311 home and RUK, 35 international. 2025 entry: 324 home and RUK, 22 international. FOI 946019.
2026 entry dataNot held on 17 August 2026 when the request was made, and the subject of a section 17 notice. The University states the complete 2026/27 undergraduate dataset will be PUBLISHED ONLINE at the end of September 2026, at gla.ac.uk/schools/medicine/mus/admissions. Check that page at the start of October.

Lowest UCAT score considered for interview, twelve years

Glasgow publishes this further back than any other school in the workbook. The raw scores cannot be compared across years because the scale and the cohort both move, so each is converted into its own cycle decile and into the current 2700 scale. Entry year N was sat in test cycle N minus 1. Entry years before 2020 are shown as published but not converted, because no decile table exists for those cycles.

2017 entry is omitted: Glasgow records 1990 with a note that the decision analysis element was not included, so it sits on a different scale again and cannot be read against the rest.

WHAT THE CONVERSION SHOWS, and it is not what the raw numbers show. For Scottish and EU applicants the bar fell sharply between 2022 and 2023 entry, from exactly the 7th decile to the 5th band, and it has stayed at the 5th ever since, sitting exactly on the 5th decile for 2025 entry. That is the largest sustained movement of any threshold in this workbook. For rest of UK applicants the fall came a year later and was steeper still, from above the 9th decile for 2022 entry to the 5th band for 2024, before rising to the 7th for 2025. International applicants moved the other way throughout, from the 8th decile band to above the 9th, and 2950 for 2025 entry is the highest threshold recorded anywhere in this workbook. A Scottish applicant at the 5th decile now has a realistic case for Glasgow that they did not have three years ago. An international applicant needs very nearly a perfect score.

THE RATIO IS THE STORY FOR NON-SCOTS. For 2025 entry a Scotland-domiciled applicant had a 70 per cent chance of interview and a 53 per cent chance of an offer. A rest of UK applicant had a 71 per cent chance of interview but only 25 per cent of an offer, and an international applicant a 21 per cent chance of interview. The 47 rest of UK places against 261 Scottish ones is the constraint, not the UCAT. Any student outside Scotland should be told the threshold is the easy part.

What this showsGlasgow sets aside no places for widening participation applicants and will not say how large the UCAT adjustment is, but the outcome is measurable. A widening participation applicant who received an offer for 2025 entry held, on average, a UCAT score around 170 points lower on the current scale than a home applicant who received an offer. Widening participation applicants are counted within the home figure, so the real gap against everyone else is larger than that.
