Medicine and dentistry entry criteria

UK and Republic of Ireland, 2026 entry cycle

Where to start

There are over a hundred tabs here, which is too many to browse. Start on one of the three summary pages below, find the university you are interested in, then open its own tab for the detail. You should not need to open more than two tabs to answer a question.

TabWhat it is forWho should open it
Undergrad medicine - summaryAll 52 undergraduate medicine courses on one page: grades, UCAT, places, contextual routesSchool leavers applying for medicine, and their parents
Graduate entry - summaryAll 23 graduate entry courses. Shows WHICH TEST each school takes and WHICH DEGREE it will acceptAnyone applying with a degree already. Read this before booking a test
Dentistry - summaryAll 22 dentistry courses including gateway, foundation and graduate routesAnyone applying for dentistry
Contextual and WP routesEvery school that has told us what its contextual route actually gives, grouped by what it doesApplicants with a widening participation or contextual flag
UCAT deciles by yearWhat any UCAT score is worth, every year since 2019, on both scalesAnyone trying to work out whether a score is good
UCAT score - who is in reachEvery published UCAT figure in the workbook, sorted by score into bands, so you can find your own score and read which universities sit at or below it. Medicine, graduate entry and dentistry on one page.Anyone who has their UCAT result and is choosing where to spend their four UCAS choices
FOI trackerEvery Freedom of Information request behind this workbook, with references and datesAnyone checking where a figure came from
New column on all three summary pagesThe last column, 'Did they tell us?', shows what happened to the Freedom of Information request behind that row. Where a university publishes nothing, it says whether the request was refused, is overdue, or is still running. The FOI tracker tab has the detail.

Cycle covered2026 entry, the most recently completed cycle. Where a university publishes only a different year, the year is named in the cell.
SourcesThree kinds of source, and the Source column on every row says which applies. (1) Published pages: university admissions and statistics pages, Medical Schools Council course pages, and the Dental Schools Council 2026 guide. (2) Freedom of Information responses published on WhatDoTheyKnow. (3) Freedom of Information responses sent directly to Jennifer Alderson by the university, each cited by its own FOI reference number and date. No commercial admissions-consultancy sites were used.
Direct FOI responses heldCardiff University FOI26-279 (18 August 2026), covering A100, A101 and A200. Brighton and Sussex FOI 4202 (1 September 2026). Lancaster (3 September 2026). Imperial College London IMPFOI-26-423 and University of Leicester F4665 (both 7 to 8 September 2026, answered by reference to published pages). Anglia Ruskin FOI 3890 (8 September 2026) - the fullest UCAT disclosure held, with deciles, quartiles, percentiles and SJT band counts for both cycles at both stages. University of Bristol FOI2627-023 (8 September 2026). University of Exeter FOI26-0296 (9 September 2026), which supplied the complete Exeter Score matrix. Further requests are outstanding with around twenty other institutions. Where a row draws on one of these, the Source column names the reference so the figure can be traced back.
FOI tracker tabThe second tab holds every Freedom of Information request: reference, dates, what the response did, what falls due next and how many days are left. Days left is a live formula against today's date, so the colours update every time the file is opened - red means the deadline has passed, amber means a week or less. The three statutory rules the dates are calculated from are quoted at the top of that tab so the arithmetic can be checked.
Row orderEach tab is split into country sections: Scotland first, then England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland at the bottom. There is also a Country column so you can filter or re-sort without losing the grouping.
IMPORTANT - the UCAT scale changedNote: the UCAT was cut from four cognitive subtests to three for 2026 entry, so the maximum score fell from 3600 to 2700. Figures below are labelled with the cycle they come from - do not compare a 3600-scale score with a 2700-scale one.
Places and ratio columnsPlaces, Applications, Interviewed and Offers are real numbers wherever a university publishes them. Interviews per place and Offers per interview are live formulas - edit a number and the ratio updates. Blank means the figure is not published.
Figures coverNames the exact cohort and year the numbers describe, because most universities publish split by fee status rather than as a single total.
Previous years columnThe last column before Source holds the year-by-year UCAT history: application year paired with whatever the university publishes, which may be a threshold, a cut point, a lowest score or an average.
High level summaryEvery university tab opens with a short summary before the detail: whether there is a score to clear, how to read the UCAT figures on that page, what else counts, and, where the university publishes the numbers, the odds per 100 applicants. Every answer is taken from the detail further down the same tab. The excruciating detail sits below it. The dentistry comparison page now carries the same 'UCAT lowest accepted' and 'UCAT average accepted' columns as the two medicine pages, so figures that were only on the detail tabs are visible from the summary.

Tabs being expanded next

These tabs currently summarise the Medical Schools Council course directory. Each is being rebuilt from the school's own admissions pages and from Freedom of Information responses, which is where the detailed figures live. Undergraduate medicine comes first, because that is where most applicants are.
